That is absolutely the most important thing you can do because some buildings are owned by the city, by the New York City Housing Authority, or by some other city entity and, in that case, you must file a notice of claim in 90 days. You must see a lawyer immediately. Once you have the address of the building, your lawyer can do a Department of Building search and figure out whether or not a notice of claim is going to be necessary.
