This is Part 5 in our NYC personal injury video series: “What Should I Do After Slipping on the Ice?”
I think you have to listen to your body. What’s bothering you; what hurts? Call the ambulance and call the police. If you can take a picture of the ice, do it. I understand that you’re going to be in pain. Usually ice can be pretty deadly. However, if you can take a picture of the ice, do it. If not, wait for the police, wait for the ambulance, and get yourself checked out. Again, your health is the most important thing. You want to notice where you fell. Where is the building? What’s the address that this ice is in front of? What does it look like? One thing about ice is that it goes away. If you don’t notice what it looks like, how thick it is, what color is it, and what area does it extend over, these are all questions that are going to come up later. If you can notice it – and I know it’s hard because you’re in pain – it’s going to be important.
